Sam Brown oversees the commercial loan origination platform in Canada, with offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax. He has more than 13 years of experience in the financial industry
Prior to joining CMLS in 2011, Mr. Brown spent 3 years as a financial officer with a specialist investments firm in London, United Kingdom. He also worked with a leading audit, tax and advisory services company in their real estate assurance practice in both Vancouver and London. Mr. Brown is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia
Oliver BaeckerVice President | Agent, Business Development
Oliver Baecker focuses on institutional and credit tenanted assets involving construction and long-term financing. He works with mid-size to large borrowers with national portfolios across all asset classes, as well as groups looking to foster new partnerships. Mr. Baecker has 20 years of experience in the commercial mortgage industry.
Prior to joining CMLS in 2008, Mr. Baecker worked for 13 years at a major Canadian financial institution, where he specialized in commercial mortgages and corporate lending. He holds of Bachelor of Arts from the University of Victoria.
Roger Bing-WoVice President, Business Development
Roger Bing-Wo focuses specifically on commercial real estate financing in Saskatchewan and the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia. He has 26 years of experience in commercial real estate lending.
Prior to joining CMLS in 2009, Mr. Bing-Wo worked as a direct lender in the real estate lending unit of a major Canadian bank. He later became a principal of the Vancouver office of a national mortgage banking company. Mr. Bing-Wo holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Regina and a Master of Business Administration from the University of British Columbia.
Lester ChowVice President, Business Development
Lester Chow handles various types of financing, including term, construction, and bridge/mezzanine financing. His clientele ranges from locally run family businesses to private investment funds to publicly traded real estate companies. Mr. Chow has 28 years of experience in commercial real estate finance.
Prior to joining CMLS in 2005, Mr. Chow held a senior commercial real estate financing position at a major Canadian financial institution. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in urban land economics from the University of British Columbia.
Edward J. De Marchi, B.Comm.Vice President | Agent, Business Development
Edward J. De Marchi focuses on sourcing commercial mortgage loan investments in British Columbia and Ontario. He has 40 years of experience in commercial mortgages.
Prior to joining CMLS in 1992, Mr. De Marchi worked with the real estate subsidiary of a major Canadian life insurance and trust company. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia.
Paul Herra, MBAAssistant Vice President, Business Development
Paul Herra works with a range of clients with commercial real estate holdings in Canada, focusing specifically on Saskatchewan and the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia. He has 4 years of experience in commercial real estate lending.
Prior to joining CMLS in 2012, Mr. Herra obtained his Master of Business Administration degree from Simon Fraser University. He also holds a Bachelor of Science from McGill University.
David E. JohnstonVice President | Agent, Business Development
David E. Johnston’s experience encompasses all forms of investment products, including complicated loan structures, land leases, and fixed rate construction lending. He has specialized in origination, structured financing, risk management and workout solutions in all asset classes. Mr. Johnston’s clientele ranges from family businesses to institutional borrowers. He has 46 years of experience in the commercial mortgage industry.
Prior to joining CMLS in 1989, Mr. Johnston held a number of senior positions at major Canadian banks. He studied engineering at the University of Waterloo.
Gagan Lalli, CFAAssistant Vice President, Business Development
Gagan Lalli handles various types of financing across Canada. He has 9 years of experience in finance.
Prior to joining CMLS in 2011, Mr. Lalli worked with a Vancouver-based firm that specializes in real estate and equipment financing. His banking career started in 2007 at one of the world’s largest commercial financing organizations. Mr. Lalli holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Victoria and a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Scott NaimerVice President | Agent, Business Development
Scott Naimer’s area of specialty includes acquisitions, refinancing, repositioning assets as well as joint venture and equity deals. He assists private and institutional investors and developers with a range of services, from CMHC insured multi-residential to portfolio acquisitions. Mr. Naimer has 15 years of experience in commercial mortgages.
Prior to joining CMLS in 2007, Mr. Naimer held a position with a commercial mortgage brokerage firm involved in high-profile construction and term mortgages. Mr. Naimer was also previously a private equity investor in multi-family residential projects. He is a graduate of Concordia University and New York University.
Matthew ShonAssistant Vice President, Business Development
Matthew Shon focuses on all types of income-producing properties across Canada. He has been involved in over $1 billion in transactions in all major asset classes and assists with managing a portfolio of over $2 billion in mortgages. Mr. Shon has 5 years of experience in commercial real estate lending.
Prior to joining CMLS in 2011, Mr. Shon obtained a degree in economics from the University of British Columbia.
Don SmithVice President | Agent, Business Development
Don Smith has financed both term and construction financing over the course of his career, with an emphasis on CMHC lending. Though his clientele includes all asset groups, Mr. Smith has in recent years focused specifically on multi-family residential and retail centres. He has 41 years of experience in the real estate finance industry.
Prior to joining CMLS in 2009, Mr. Smith built his career with a major Canadian trust company and bank. He held senior commercial lending positions involving conventional and insured term mortgages, as well as interim construction facilities on all asset classes. Mr. Smith holds an economics degree from Carleton University.
Mark TiuAssistant Vice President, Business Development
Mark Tiu focuses on term financing for income-producing commercial properties. He has 14 years of experience in the commercial finance industry.
Prior to joining CMLS in 2010, Mr. Tiu held commercial banking positions within a Canadian subsidiary of one of the world’s largest banking and financial services organizations. He holds a marketing degree from De La Salle University, Philippines.
